Accessibility Standards & Compliance

The Redco is committed to meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) when developing our site and web sites for our clients. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has published Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) that helps developers make web sites accessible to people with special needs, people with visual, hearing, cognitive and motor impairments. Our website complies with the WCAG Priority 2 (AA) guidelines as a minimum. Below is a list of standards that we adhere to:-

Accessibility Features:

Our websites are designed with the following accessibility features in mind:-

  • Primary site navigation is located at the top of each page.
  • Sitemap navigation is located at the bottom of each page.
  • Secondary navigation elements are located on the left of each page.
  • A home page link is available on each page by clicking The logo in the top left hand corner.
  • Navigation menus are marked up as HTML lists and styled with CSS.
  • We use relative font sizes on our websites so text can be increased or decreased using your browser.
  • Our website conforms to the XHTML 1.0 Transitional standard.
  • Some Links have 'title' attributes, which describes the link in more detail and provides context.
  • Links on the same page with the same text, will always point to the same location unless differentiated with the 'title' attribute.
  • To aid screen readers, forms have labels associated with their controls.
  • We try to use clear and simple language.
  • We use alternative ('alt') text for all our images that convey information to the user. The alt text we use provides context to the user. Images used for design purposes only, will have empty alternative text.
  • Our web pages are designed so that they can be viewed at a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels.
  • Our site doe not include blinking text or images, and nothing on this site will cause your screen to flicker.
  • This site utilises a small amount of JavaScript to enhance the user experience. If you your browser software does not fully support JavaScript or it has been disabled, the core functionality of the site will still be available.
  • We may have PDF's that are downloadable from the site. If we do, the pdf content will be readable by screen readers.
  • Our site has been checked using the industry tools.

To invoke an access key requires pressing a specific keyboard combination, which depends on what type of web browser you are using.

  • Internet Explorer - Alt & access key, followed by Enter.
  • Firefox 1.5 and below, Mozilla, Netscape 6+ - Alt & access key.
  • Firefox 2+ - Alt & Shift & access key.
  • Opera (Windows and Macintosh) - Shift & Esc & access key.
  • Macintosh browsers - Ctrl & access key.
