Cosmetic Acupuncture is a natural way to improve your complexion and give the appearance of youthful looking skin, it is a non-surgical procedure that is effective for many patients and like all of Abbey Acupuncture’s treatments it is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
There has been a lot of coverage in the press recently with many high profile celebrities admitting that they have used facial acupuncture to help rejuvenate the look and feel of their skin. There is nothing new in using acupuncture in this way, the practice is said to go back thousands of years to the Sung Dynasty.
Charlotte uses her knowledge of both TCM and 5 Element Acupuncture to ensure she is treating each patient as an individual and tailors the cosmetic acupuncture to their particular needs. She is a certified practitioner and has been accredited by the College of Chinese Medicine to use cosmetic acupuncture techniques.
The treatment can improve the appearance of your complexion and benefit skin tone by tightening various muscle groups in and around the face. It can also help in reducing lines and wrinkles and minimising the appearance of fine lines around the eyes and mouth.
The stresses and strains of daily life can leave many of us with tired and dull looking skin. Facial acupuncture can assist in improving the look and feel of the skin as well as providing a toning effect.
At Abbey Acupuncture we also use a number of additional non facial points to help you feel more relaxed and free from stress so you get the absolute most from your Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment.
People who have had facial acupuncture report that their skin looks more youthful, they experience a reduction in stress and that their complexion generally feels firmer and smoother.
Charlotte will firstly insert a series of needles around the face, this is really the “base” treatment and is applied to all patients. After that a series of very small, fine needles are inserted into the areas of the face that are most affected by lines and wrinkles.
Where the fine needles have created openings within the skin the body naturally produces collagen that collects in the areas targeted during the treatment. The procedure also encourages the flow of blood to circulate in the targeted area.
The encouragement of these natural bodily functions boosts the supply of oxygen, naturally occurring oils that moisturise the area and delivers nutrients that feed the skin, which can leave the skin looking fresher, more toned and with a more youthful look.
In general terms no but people react differently to the treatment and certain areas may feel slightly uncomfortable. Charlotte is an experienced and skilled acupuncture professional and as with all treatments if you experience any level of discomfort the needles will be removed from that particular area immediately.
Before commencing any acupuncture treatment cosmetic or not Charlotte will conduct a full patient interview and discuss your medical history, your lifestyle and your general well-being. This will mean that your first appointment may be longer than the others but it is important to establish an individual treatment plan for each patient.
In some cases it may be appropriate to balance a patient prior to commencing the facial treatment and Charlotte may choose to insert traditional acupuncture needles elsewhere in the body to achieve this before commencing the cosmetic acupuncture treatment.
A typical Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatment consists of the following:
Each session takes approximately 2 hours and a course of at least 6 sessions is recommended.
